MCSSA COMMITTEE
SIGN-UP SHEET
MCSSA is always seeking member participation for its various committees.
Please review the following material and indicate on the attached form, your
preference for committee participation for this association year. You may sign
up for as many committees as you wish. Thank you for your consideration, and we
look forward to working with you.
The following are association committees and a brief description of their
function and meeting schedule:
PROGRAM COMMITTEES
All program committees review
and make recommendations on proposed legislation, rules and departmental
policies as they relate to the specific program area overseen by the committee.
They also propose association legislative priorities, provide information from
which testimony is developed for legislative hearings, and assist in the
gathering of data to assist in the association’s advocacy efforts. The issue
committees, which all meet monthly and deal with the FIA client issues described
in their title, include:

BOARD MEMBER DEVELOPMENT –
Meets Tuesday preceding second
Wednesday @ 1:30 pm to review and make recommendations
regarding:
training programs for board members (including training for boards with
medical care facilities),
state and local office issues
including the boards’ role in the contractual processes,
the boards’ role in the
appointment of FIA directors, as well as the annual evaluation of county
directors.
CONSTITUTION, BYLAWS AND PLATFORM -
reviews and recommends proposed amendments to the association constitution and
bylaws and forwards such recommendations to the full membership. Reviews and
makes recommendations for affiliated councils’ constitutions and bylaws. Also
reviews and makes recommendations on the various association platform planks and
committees' goals and objectives. Meets at the call of the chair.
LEGISLATIVE
- Meets Tuesday preceding second

proposed legislation and proposes legislative, policy and rule changes.
Finalizes association legislative priorities for presentation to association
membership and the legislature annually. Provides information used to develop
testimony for legislative hearings.
MERITORIOUS AWARDS - Reviews and makes recommendations on candidates for
various association and departmental awards. Meets annually.
PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
CONFERENCE
PLANNING – Meets
second Wednesday immediately following Board of Directors. Plans the following programs:
Annual Conference (August/September) - plans workshops and annual
business meetings for MCSSA and affiliate councils. Proposes conference budget.
Reviews and recommends possible sites for future. Meets at call of the chair.
SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE - makes selection of scholarship winners.
Assists in raising funds for scholarship fund. Meets annually.
ASSOCIATION LIAISONS –
All liaisons report monthly to the MCSSA board of directors
TO MCSSW - Meets with the MCSSW board of directors bi-monthly. Advocates
for MCSSW concerns and issues to the MCSSA board of directors.
TO NACo – National
Association of Counties.
TO APHSA – American
Public Human Services Association.
TO NAPCWA – National
Association of Public Child Welfare Administrators.
TO MAC – Michigan
Association of Counties.
